RF28mm F2.8 STM lens is a super-compact, wide-angle lens great for travel, street photography, and video and is a great entry point for full frame EOS R cameras. Great for still photography and videography, 28mm has been the starting point for getting a wide-angle “look” in pictures and video for decades — wide enough on a full-frame camera, to have a distinct wide-angle character, and yet not so wide that it becomes a challenge to use. This lens absolutely can also be used with APS-C sensor EOS R-series cameras, like the EOS R7, R10, and R50. Its super-compact design combines beautifully with them, and on an APS-C sensor, it provides coverage equal to a standard 45mm lens. Its super-flat design belies the fact that this lens delivers 28mm wide-angle coverage on full frame cameras, along with an f/2.8 maximum aperture. The lens’s minimum focus distance is approximately 9 inches; it accepts 55mm filters, and with the incredibly small front lens element, it uses an optional, dedicated Canon screw-in lens hood EW-55. This compact 28mm RF lens is worth checking out, even if you already own other wide-angle lenses, and carries an attractive price, putting it within reach of many Canon EOS R-series users.
Compatible with most Canon EOS mirrorless cameras
For use with your existing camera.
Wide-angle lens for broad composition
Delivers stunning perspectives and allows you to include more of the scene in the frame.
28mm focal length
Excelent for shooting landscapes, architecture, group shots, travel shots and more.
f/2.8 maximum aperture
Creates sharp, detailed images with shallow depth of field and softly blurred background. Performs best in moderate-to-bright light settings or outdoors on overcast days.
An ultra-portable “everyday” lens for when weight and size matter
The RF28mm F2.8 STM makes for a lightweight and comfortable, all-day lens whether you are vlogging or shooting stills. It's ideal for capturing everything you see along the way, especially if you are traveling.
Even when shooting with an APS-C camera (45mm equivalent), it is still a very capable lens to capture everything around you. Best of all, it won’t break the bank.
Excelent image quality
Taking advantage of the Canon RF lens mount, the RF28mm F2.8 STM lens offers great optical quality, edge-to-edge. Its optical design includes three aspheric elements, and Canon Super Spectra Coating (SSC) to minimize ghosting and flare.
And the f/2.8 aperture really shines in low-light situations.
Lead Screw-type STM
Canon's stepping motor (STM) technology is especially effective at producing smooth, quiet autofocus during video recording, even in low light. This lens is a perfect choice for multi-media content creation with quiet autofocus.
And, STM focus drive provides responsive, quick - and exceptionally quiet - AF during still-image shooting, as well.
Control Ring for direct setting changes
The RF28mm F2.8 STM lens incorporates a Focus/Control ring on the lens barrel that can directly adjust numerous settings including shutter speed, aperture, exposure compensation and more.
Located towards the front of the lens and effectively adding a third dial to the EOS R camera's main dial and quick control dial. This Focus/Control ring can quickly be set to AF, MF, or Control thanks to the dedicated switch on the barrel of the lens.
Impressively compact and light at only 0.6 lbs/9.5 oz.
The compact size and light weight of the lens makes it an ideal companion on long days and adventures. It is also handy for a day out shooting and when you want to be creative without having to carry multiple lenses.

Highly versatile lens.
I originally purchased this lens to be used on a Canon EOS R in order to reduce weight when hiking. I have yet to use it for that purpose but was able to produce a fantastic Christmas card photo for my neighbors who were seated in their Irish Pub / den. The field of view was perfect and the image quality spectacular.

Incredible value!
Got this lens today and immediately noticed the lightweight form factor. It is the lightest and smallest lens I have owned and makes my R6 feel like a point and shoot. It is super quiet, and the control switch on the lens is really easy to use. The pictures I got were incredible for the price point and the size of the lens. It doesn't compare to my EF 24-70 in any means, but I love the lightweight factor! I would recommend to anyone looking for something compact or if you are looking for a good starter lens for your R series camera.
