An underrated comic book film

She’s so intoxicating
||Posted . Owned for 8 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Now you know what happened after the Joker left! Each time we watch the movie we find more things we missed the first time we watched the movie. Plenty of action and colorful. Never look for normal from Harley Quinn.

Fun movie with great picture quality
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Birds of Prey is a fun movie that showcases the talents of Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn within the DC film universe. This is more of a street level film where our anti-heroes are in peril but the universe does not need saving. Ewan McGregor as Black Mask is one of the nastier villains we've seen in a comic book movie to date. Quick note on the release: the image on the website and the listing mention the inclusion of a digital code but the actual packaging from my purchase does not mention the digital code anywhere. I was worried it would be missing but when I opened the case, there was a digital code included. So if you're worried it might not be included, it should be there even if the packaging doesn't mention it.

Suicide Squad was always the Harley Quinn show!
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The original Suicide Squad movie was a bit of a mixed bag with a jolt of promise shouldered by Margot Robbie in her breakout performance as the iconic Harley Quinn. Birds of Prey made the smart move by putting the franchise focus where it shines brightest by giving her a starring role unfettered by Jarod Leto's thoroughly off-putting and weird performance inspired by Die Antwoord as the Joker. With "Mr. J" largely out of the way (aside from some influence on plot direction), Harley Quinn has all the room she needs to take the leading role. While this is an incredibly profane and violent film, I think it largely succeeds in empowerment of its largely female cast as an antidote to decades of patriarchal comics storytelling. There is in no way a deep story line to follow, it's mostly action-packed popcorn action from beginning to end. There are several genuinely funny, LOL moments throughout the movie like the scene where Harley Quinn fights a bunch of cops in a police station. While Margot Robbie owns the film, Ewan McGregor really kills it (literally) in his portrayal of psychotic local crime boss Roman Sionis. I cracked up every time he does something horrid quickly followed by a melodramatic and tween-inflected "ew!!". Recommended.

A fun and enjoyable movie!
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. There's always going to be faults on any film, and this movie is not an exception to this. However, it's enjoyable and a different perspective than the typical DC Universe movies. There's violence, but in a fun and amusing way. The video is excellent as it was shot at 3.4K and finished in 4K instead of a 2K upscale. The Atmos audio is solid but not a reference disc with decent immersion and good LFE. Dialogue was a tad low but otherwise a good mix. This is a good title to buy during the sale season.

||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Birds of Prey is a fun and energetic step in the right direction, but the execution is too on the nose and it tries too hard to be clever, different, and fun which leads the entire production and stories astray. Still, there is enough to like about this world set inside the DCU, especially Harley Quinn, because there is more to her than meets the eye. The 4K video with Dolby Vision is excellent and a wonderful uptick in detail and color, while the Dolby Atmos sound very good. There are some great bonus features to add to the mix as well. Recommended!
