Impressive technology for my son

I bought the printer for my 11 year old son with some hesitation on practicality, ease of use, interest level, etc. it was surprising to me how much he has used it (it has been a month thus far). Initially there was a problem getting an image file to transfer to the printer and it turned out to be a software glitch. This happened on day one, but a fix was provided by the company within a day or so. Thus far, my son has printed about 20 different images from files readily available online (resting dog, football logo of favorite team, letters, iPhone case, etc.). The learning curve is surprisingly short and the only other issue he has had is keeping the nozzle clean with a few images "sticking" to nozzle. Some really small intricate printing such as an Eiffel Tower model that 2 inches tall didn't print well at all given the lattice work, but others with some mass or size have printed well. Overall, it is quite impressive technology and I would recommend purchasing it.

It quit working on the second print. XYZ's response:
Customer service line (Not open the hours it says on the machine), response, and I quote: "Too BEEZY". No cooperation here, even when I tried to make an appointment. Never got a call back.
On Line Support: 5 weeks and no satisfactory response. They sent me to YouTube links.
Replacement parts: Go the their website. They've been out of stack of everything since this whole mistake began in late January. Oh, and the machine I have is the second one. I had to return the first because it arrived broken.
XYZ warranty is only 6 months. They just brush you off for that long hoping you'll go away. They have my money though an without support, no way to get it back. Incidentally, Best Buy does not offer buyer protection on this piece of work. That should have been my first clue.
I sure wish I had read the Best Buy reviews before purchasing.

Good place to start painting with plastic.

Surprisingly simple to use, after you understand the things others have already tripped over, like the slippery print surface that needs a glue stick applied before printing.
The software is pretty rudimentary, but serviceable. The biggest lack is an end to end how-to guide. That seems to be the rule these days, google it or figure it out yourself...keeps the prices low.
Make sure you're getting what you want. They do a poor job of pointing out what features you don't get on the cheap ones, like wifi support. Other than color and price, they look the same. The company could improve its marketing, but they're doing some things well, like a product that is affordable and actually works.

I purchased this on clearance sale, hoping to print simple items more cost-effectively than they were to acquire at retail. The videos about the product make it seem like the 3D prints will effortlessly pop right off the table and be ready for use...
Then reality hit like a ton of bricks, starting with the awful setup instructions, which were spartan at best, with pictures that looked like they were printed mostly in black.
The first printing I tried looked terrible, and after it finished hours later, I had to tear into the bed's replaceable adhesive tape with the included scraper in order to free the printed items... all of which looked like junk!
The second print I attempted I didn't even allow to finish - it looked that bad!
If you're thinking about getting into 3D printing, do yourself a big favor and spend your money on something better than this... which means pretty much anything else!

This is a good first 3d printer. Works right out of the box and the resolution of the prints is quite nice. The down side is that the pla filament used can only be purchased from xyz and they charge more than other manufacturers for less pla.

Did my research and for an entry level 3D printer it works great! The kids love it and so do I!
